Stride PAIA Manual
Manual in terms of section 51 of the Promotion of Access to Information Act, 2000 (PAIA), read with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).
Effective date: 26 August 2026
Legal-review note: this is a complete working draft of the statutory manual. It must be reviewed and signed off by a qualified South African attorney before publication. A PAIA manual must state the responsible body's physical or postal address; that single official detail cannot be invented and must be inserted by you before this manual is published or lodged.
1. Introduction
This manual is published to help members of the public understand how to request access to records held by Stride ("Stride", "we", "us"), the learning platform operated by its founding team. It is prepared in line with PAIA and POPIA.
2. Particulars of the body
- Name: Stride
- Head of the body / Information Officer: Under POPIA, the head of a private body is its Information Officer by default. The Information Officer can be contacted at info@stride-edu.co.za.
- Website: https://stride-edu.co.za
- Contact email: info@stride-edu.co.za
- Postal / physical address: to be inserted on registration (the one official detail that cannot be drafted in advance).
3. The Information Regulator's guide
The Information Regulator has published a guide on how to use PAIA. It is available from the Regulator and explains a requester's rights. Contact details:
The Information Regulator (South Africa) JD House, 27 Stiemens Street, Braamfontein, Johannesburg, 2001 Email: PAIAComplaints@inforegulator.org.za / complaints.IR@inforegulator.org.za Website: https://inforegulator.org.za
4. Records held by Stride
The categories of records Stride holds include:
- Learner and account records: account details, diagnostic results, learning activity, progress, and the learning-science measures described in our Privacy Policy.
- Parent and guardian records: contact details, guardianship links, and consent records.
- Waitlist and beta records: contact details and program preferences.
- Operational records: correspondence, security and audit logs, and supplier agreements.
- Statutory records: records kept to comply with tax, company, and data- protection law.
Personal information is processed as set out in the Stride Privacy Policy.
5. How to request access to a record
- Complete the prescribed PAIA request form (Form 2, the requester form for access to records of a private body), available from the Information Regulator's website.
- Send the completed form to info@stride-edu.co.za.
- Provide enough detail to identify the record, the form of access required, and your contact details, and explain the right you are seeking to exercise where the request is for personal information.
- If you are requesting a record on behalf of another person, provide proof of your authority.
We will respond within the period required by PAIA (generally 30 days), and will tell you if the period must be extended.
6. Fees
PAIA allows a private body to charge the prescribed request and access fees. Where a fee applies, we will tell you the amount before processing the request and, where required, request a deposit. Requests for your own personal information are handled in line with POPIA.
7. Grounds on which access may be refused
Access to a record may be refused on the grounds set out in PAIA, including the mandatory protection of the privacy of a third party, the commercial information of a third party, confidential information, the safety of persons and property, and records privileged from production in legal proceedings. Where we refuse a request, we will give reasons and explain your right to complain or appeal.
8. Other legislation
Access to records may also be governed by other laws, including POPIA, the Companies Act, and tax legislation. Nothing in this manual limits your rights under those laws.
9. Remedies
If you are not satisfied with how a request is handled, you may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (details in section 3), or pursue the remedies available under PAIA.
10. Availability of this manual
This manual is available on our website at https://stride-edu.co.za and on request by email to info@stride-edu.co.za.
